Reading:
-Students will read an array of literature and cite strong textual evidence to support analysis of what the text says.
-Students will make their own analysis of a text where the author leaves matters unclear and support their claim with information within the text.
-Students will write literary analysis papers where they will analyze the development of themes, or issues, in a text.
-Students will analyze an author's choice of development of a text.
Writing:
-Students will write narratives to develop real or imagined experiences or events using effective technique, well-chosen details, and well-structured event sequences.
-Students will produce clear and coherent writing in which the development, organization, and style are appropriate to task, purpose, and audience
-Students will gather relevant information from multiple authoritative print and digital sources, using advanced searches effectively; assess the strengths and limitations of each source in terms of the task, purpose, and audience; integrate information into the text selectively to maintain the flow of ideas, avoiding plagiarism and overreliance on any one source and following a standard format for citation. (GRADE 11 FOCUS OF SEMESTER 2, REVISITED IN GRADE 12)
OVERALL GOALS:
Grade 11:
-By the end of grade 11, students will be able to read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems with scaffolding as needed.
-By the end of grade 11, students will be able to research nonfiction pieces of text, decipher important information, and embed information in a well-written research paper with scaffolding as needed.
-By the end of grade 11, students will be able to write over time for different purposes, mediums, and audiences with scaffolding as needed.
Grade 12:
-By the end of grade 12, students will be able to read and comprehend literature, including stories, dramas, and poems independently.
-By the end of grade 12, students will be able to research nonfiction pieces of text, decipher important information, and embed information in a well-written research paper independently.
-By the end of grade 12, students will be able to write over time for different purposes, mediums, and audiences independently.
